This is a new user group that evolved from contact with Brenda Milsom and Kate Jordan from North Tyneside General Hospital.
Kate came along on Wednesday mornings, working with 10 ladies from the community; they cooked two course meals using fresh vegetables fresh fruit and basic ingredients from the cupboard all with a low salt / sugar content.
From this initial project we now have a small Healthy Eating Luncheon Club on a Wednesday morning.
Earlier this year twelve volunteers successfully undertook a Food Hygiene Course held at the Community Centre which was set up for them by the Y.M.C.A in Durham, they were presented with their Certificates in November 2001.
The Group successfully applied to Healthy Communities for a grant of £1,150 and to Age Concern for £400.00 to purchase kitchen equipment. It is planned to expand the session by encouraging the elderly residents who attend the afternoon bingo to come over for lunch before their Bingo session begins.
If you would like to participate, or donate equipment, please contact us here at Moor Park Community Centre.
